Highlights
Description
Even we start the High Atlas Mountain Trek from Imlil, we can pick you up early morning from Marrakesh, right outside of the well known big hotel Grand Tazi Hotel Marrakech to take you to our start point in Imlil.
Here you will leave your vehicle to take a welcome glass of mint tea in the village and chat with you prior to setting out for some 15 km hiking excursion. We hike towards the south to the Berber village of Azzaden Valley via Tizi Mazik Mountain (2489m).
Later on we are passing the hamlets of Arghen, Mazik, up and down the stark slopes, the jagged Western High Atlas peaks of the Toubkal Massif before us - Jbels Aguelzim (3,547m), Aksouâl (3,847m) and the Adrar Adj (3,122m) watching us all the way.
There will be a stop at Tizi Oussem village to visit this rather singular village in the Assif Ait Ouazzaden Valley. The village had beed built seemingly house upon house on a large moraine spur, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn and vegetables and always surrounded by almond and walnut trees.
Our High Atlas Mountain Trek then continues for another half hour until the stop for lunch which will be served among a berber family in the village of Idissa. After relaxing lunch we set off back to Imlil.

Show full review ➤ Booked this trip as an alternative to lots of other offers that seemed overly touristy or didn't seem like there would be that much actually hiking. Our driver picked us up from our riad in Marrakech and drove us to Imlil where we met our fantastic guide Rachid Jellah. Rachid sat us down with a map (and a cup of Moroccan Tea), listened to our preferences and gave us further options of routes. In the end we hiked the Imlil, Imnane and Azzaden Valleys and hiked Tawdja Peak, which offered amazing views of the whole area. Rachid was an excellent guide, checking we were okay throughout and always quick with a helping hand for any trickier bits. He was friendly and knew the landscape and locals incredibly well. He showed amazing Moroccan hospitality and we had an unique, personalised and authentic experience. We would very much recommend. Hide review
