Description
We are going to visit Kyauktawgyi, the largest marble Buddha image in Myanmar. This 37-feet- high sitting Buddha image is located on the top of a hillock with two stairways.
Then visit Kalaywa Taw Ya monastery, the residence for more than one thousand monks and nuns. It is also the place for studying and teaching of Buddhist scriptures.
Next, go to Mahapasana cave, the man-made cave built-in 1952 to hold Sixth Buddhist Synod (Great Buddhist council). More than twenty-five hundred monks from five Theravada Buddhist countries have been participated in this Synod by reciting, editing, and approving authentic Buddhist scriptures. After lunch, head to Chauk Htat Gyi or great six layers statue of reclining Buddha image, one of the large reclining Buddha images of the region.
Then enjoy your shopping at Bogyoke Market (formerly Scott s market), a place that should not miss for every visitor to Myanmar. It is the large colonial building selling various Myanmar handicrafts, lacquerware, wood carving, tapestry and silverware, and many other small items of souvenir and close on Monday and public holidays.
Walk around the city center to see some of the colonial buildings of colonial Yangon.
Visit Shwedagon Pagoda, a hundred- meter-high-dome shaped religious structure covering with hundreds of gold plates. According to the legend, eight strands of hair relic of Buddha were enshrined at this site. Built-in 2600 years ago, it is believed to be one of the earliest pagodas of the Gautama Buddha Era. The Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the wonders of the world and it never fails to enchant visitors.
