First you will explore the Imperial Garden, and walk past the Imperial Palace to the Court Church with the funeral monument of Emperor Maximilian and his bronze "Black Men" (Schwarze Mander). Also, worth a visit is the baroque Cathedral of St. James. Its interior contains the famous painting Mariahilf (Mary of Succor) by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The admission to the cathedral is free, visits are only possible outside of church services. Afterwards, you will stroll through the historic city center to the former magnificent alcove balcony of Emperor Maximilian, the Golden Roof, the most photographed monument in Innsbruck.
Your guide leads you then further through narrow alleys past colorful historic town houses to the Inn bridge. It connects the Old Town with Innsbruck's oldest district St. Nikolaus-Mariahilf. Here you will enjoy the view of the colorful house facades with the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Nordkette in the background.
Are you interested in modern architecture? There is also something to discover in Innsbruck, including Zaha Hadid's futuristic-looking stations of the Hungerburg funicular, the new House of Music, David Chipperfield's Kaufhaus Tyrol or the town hall galleries by Dominique Perrault. The tour ends on Maria Theresien Street with its magnificent buildings in baroque style, the St. Anne's column and the Triumphal Arch as a crowning finale.
