Playa de Ajuy is a gorgeous beach, located on the west coast of Fuerteventura, one of the islands that belong to the Canary archipelago. The beach can boast fine volcanic sand of dark colour which becomes almost entirely black when meeting the ocean waves.
The place also does not suffer from being overcrowded, since the majority of visitors are the locals, namely from a small fishing village, also called Ajuy. However, the waves washing this coast may be quite tempestuous sometimes - the torrents here are too strong. So, it might not be always safe to bathe there, but don't be quickly disappointed - there are still some of the natural pools among the rocks along the coast where you can splash, if the tide is low. And if you happen to be an ambitious and skillful diver, you can try your luck and go straight into the force of nature!
The territory of Playa de Ajuy is also famous for the oldest caves which can be found not far from the beach itself. You ought to just follow the path carved in the rocks to get there. This area is protected due to the geological uniqueness and is known under the title of Monumento Natural de Ajuy. The caves are very picturesque and will definitely look great on the photographs. Also, as some folks retell, these caves served the pirates as a place to store the haul at around the 15th century. Not only that, Ajuy village is also famous for its restaurants, where the tourist can indulge into delicacies of the local cuisine, since fishing is the main trade here. When the shoreline is explored, the caves are visited and taken pictures of and the ocean streams are conquered, you can enjoy the stunning sunsets! The sky is said to gain multiple colours and shades, offering an otherworldly view.
So, if you are a lover of quiet places by the ocean, then do not hesitate and head for Playa de Ajuy!
