Join me for a birdwatching adventure in New York City's iconic Central Park! Together, we’ll uncover the park’s feathered residents and embrace the seasonal beauty that makes this urban oasis so special.
About Me
Hi! I’m Steph, a bird enthusiast, content creator, and your beginner guide to the wonderful world of birds. I’m based right here in NYC, where I share my passion for birds through TikTok, YouTube (@learnaboutbirds) and my podcast, That Quirky Bird Girl (available on Apple and Spotify). I’m all about having fun, learning, and helping others connect with nature through birds.
What to Expect
During this two-hour tour, we’ll start at Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain and make our way north toward The Ramble. Along the way, we’ll spot Sparrows, Blue Jays, Northern Cardinals, ducks, geese, and even the charming (and often underrated) pigeons!
We’ll talk about how the park changes through the seasons, explore its bird habitats, and even try out the Merlin app by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology—a super fun and easy tool for identifying birds in real-time. Our tour wraps up at Friedman’s on 72nd Street, where you can relax and reflect on the day over a warm drink.

- Binoculars: Not required, but they’ll add to the experience. I’ll have an extra pair to share, so message me if you’d like to reserve them.
- Duration: Approximately 2 hours, depending on the group’s walking pace.
- Accessibility: This tour is open to everyone! Whether you’re a slower walker, use walking aids, are in a wheelchair, or require specific accommodations, I’ll do my best to ensure the route and experience meet your needs. Start Point: Bethesda Fountain
- Meet at Bethesda Fountain, one of Central Park’s most iconic landmarks. Begin with an introduction to the park’s bird opportunities and a brief overview of what to expect!
Stop 1: The Lake
- Walk along the edges of The Lake, keeping an eye out for waterfowl like Mallards, Canada Geese, and maybe even a Wood Duck!!
Stop 2: The Ramble
- Head into The Ramble, a bird lover's paradise with winding paths and dense foliage. Search for Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, White-Throated Sparrows, and Hermit Thrushes. Use the Merlin app here to identify bird songs and calls.
Stop 3: Bow Bridge
- Pause at Bow Bridge for a scenic view and a chance to spot more birds. Discuss how birds interact with the park’s landmarks and natural spaces.
End Point: Friedman’s on 72nd Street
- Exit The Ramble and make our way to Friedman’s on the Upper West Side to conclude the tour.
