What's included
Itinerary
Day 1
Transfer to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our driver-guide will welcome you and provide a brief overview of Uganda, known as the "Pearl of Africa".
After an early breakfast, we will set out for Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary, pausing en route to observe some of the region's rare bird species. Once we reach Zziwa, you will have time to unwind at the lodge. Later, as the day's warmth wanes, embark on a rhino trekking adventure. This two-hour journey offers a chance to observe these magnificent creatures up close. Though under constant supervision, the rhinos roam freely, presenting a unique opportunity to witness their behavior while aiding their conservation and eventual reintroduction into Uganda's wilderness.
Day 2
Early Morning Bird Watching and Transfer to Masindi
We will rise very early today as we venture into the sanctuary's wetlands on foot and by canoe, eager to spot the shoebill and other aquatic species of the Zziwa wetland. The likelihood of sightings here is excellent, and we anticipate spending substantial time observing these magnificent birds. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a warm lunch at the lodge before we transfer you to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3
Birdwatching on the Royal Mile
An early departure takes us through dense forest to the renowned "Royal Mile." Accompanied by our expert guides, we'll seek out various forest-dwelling bird species such as hornbills, kingfishers, rollers, woodpeckers, barbets, spinetails, and sunbirds, among others. Following this, we'll journey along a picturesque route near Lake Albert and arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. Post-lunch, you'll have the choice to partake in a guided birdwatching excursion within the lodge's grounds or opt for a brief evening birding walk.
Nestled on the Nile's banks amidst woodland and adjacent to farmland, your lodge serves as a sanctuary for numerous bird species. The diverse avian life includes flycatchers, weavers, sunbirds, kingfishers, kestrels, owls, hornbills, and more.
Day 4
Bird Watching in the Nile Delta
Shortly after dawn, your scheduled boat will depart from the lodge's front and navigate downstream towards the river's "delta" in pursuit of shoebills. Despite the challenge posed by their expansive habitat, the likelihood of spotting them remains high. Additionally, the journey promises a wealth of other sightings. Post this morning adventure, you will return to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon offers leisure time to discover the local area or opt for a brief evening safari drive.
Day 5:
Game Drive in Murchison Falls National Park
Rise early for a hearty breakfast before setting off to where we'll cross the Nile for our morning game drive. Our quest will be to spot lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hyenas, hartebeests, and more. We'll spend approximately 4 hours traversing the diverse landscapes of the northern section of Murchison Falls National Park, which includes rolling savannahs, riverine forests, and marshlands.
Post-lunch at your lodge, we'll embark on the scheduled cruise to Murchison Falls, where a plethora of waterbirds awaits our observation. Following the cruise, we'll hike to the top of the falls. Here, your driver will meet you to escort you back to your lodge for dinner.
Day 6:
Transfer to Entebbe
An early start will see us departing from the park to the Airport View Hotel in Entebbe. Breakfast will be served at approximately 7:30 am, followed by a journey of around 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, we will have the opportunity to unwind and observe the local shorebirds from the comfort of our lodge while savoring our meals.
Day 7
Birding at Botanical Gardens and Conclusion of Journey
An early morning will be planned in accordance with our flight schedule. The Entebbe Botanical Gardens offer an excellent opportunity for bird watching. We may get to observe the vibrant orange weaver, among other avian species, as we wrap up our journey.
Our guide will assist with our transfer to the airport, ensuring we arrive several hours prior to our departure from Uganda to our homeland.
