6 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking Via Machame route up to Uhuru Peak

Machame 6 days Itinerary

DAY 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Dakado drive from Moshi to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 50 minutes. Along the journey drive to Machame gate hiker(s) will pass through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. With Dakado Guide, hiker(s) will now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are recommended and are an excellent idea here! Hiker(s) will continue a short distance until we reach the Machame encampment.

DAY 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After Dakado breakfast, you leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The Dakado route will turns west onto a river gorge and time for rest, dinner, and overnight at the Shira campsite.

Day 3: Kilimanjaro Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Valley

On the third Dakado day of Machame route Kilimanjaro hiking, the hiker(s) and the team will walk on a gentle ascent and panoramic view. you will traverse the southwest side of Mount Kilimanjaro, passing underneath the Lava Tower and the final section of the Western Breach after hot lunch the bottom of the Lava Tower 4,600m we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco valley 3,950m.

• Rising: 12,600ft / 3,840m to 12,700ft / 3,860m

• Stretch: 15 km

• Hike time: 5-7 hours

• Climatic habitat: Semi-desert

• Shelter: Full Board Barranco Camp

DAY 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After Dakado breakfast, you’ll leave Barranco and continue fantastic Dakado hiking on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. The route will leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. The climbing will continue up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which chance you views of the summit from many different angles. Here Dakado Tours makes camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day, the two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be seen from this destination.

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Kilimanjaro summit, down to Mweka Camp

Early in the morning Hiker(s) and Team Dakado will continue to hike towards the summit between the Rebman and Reitzel glaciers. Hiker(s) and the team will head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek! At Stella Point, you will stop for a short Dakado rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you have ever seen. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From Stella Point, you may encounter snow on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa! From the summit we begin our descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. We will arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy our last fantastic evening on Mount Kilimanjaro.

• Rising: 4700m/15,350ft to 5895m/19,343ft Down to 3090m/10,150ft

• Stretch: 6 km up / 13 km down

• Hiking Time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down

• Climatic habitat: Arctic

DAY 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate - Back to Moshi

After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates, the pace quickens as you continue your triumphant way back down across alpine meadow and past Mandara Hut through the rainforest to Marangu Gate where you board the vehicle for the journey back to Moshi/Arusha, this marks the end of Machame 6 days route.
