DAY 01. AIRPORT TO NEGOMBO.

NEGOMBO CITY TOUR

Negombo is a major city in Srilanka, situated on the west coast and the

mouth of the Negombo lagoon, in the Western Province, 38km from

Colombo. Negombo has a population of about 142,136 within its

divisional secretariat division. Negombo is known for its long sandy

beaches and centuries old fishing industry.

The name ‘Negombo’ is the Portuguese corruption of its Tamil name

Neerkolombu. The shallow waters of the Negombo Lagoon provide safe

shelter for seafaring vessels and became one of the key ports in Srilanka.

The Hamilton Canal flows in the heart of the city. The Negombo Lagoon is

one of the most scenic landmarks of Negombo. There are over 190 species

of wildlife and plenty of birds in its mangroves.

Negombo is a multi-religious city. The township of Negombo has had a

majority of Roman Catholics along with Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims.

DAY 02. NEGOMBO TO SIGIRIYA

DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE

Dambulla cave temple also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is

a World Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka, situated in the central part of the

country.

Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri

Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more

than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area.

Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and

paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Gautama Buddha and

his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri

Lankan kings and four statues of gods and goddesses.

Prehistoric Sri Lankans would have lived in these cave complexes before

the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka as there are burial sites with human

skeletons about 2700 years old in this area, at Ibbankatuwa near the

Dambulla cave complexes.

SIGIRIYA LION ROCK

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortress located in the

northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central

Province, Sri Lanka. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance

that is dominated by a massive column of rock approximately 180 meters

(590 ft.) high.

According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa , this area

was a large forest, then after storms and landslides it became a hill and

was selected by King Kashyapa (477 – 495 AD) for his new capital. He built

his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with

colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this

rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this

place is derived from this structure — Sinhagiri, the Lion Rock.

DAY 03. SIGIRIYA TO POLONNARUWA

POLONNARUWA ANCIENT CITY

Polonnaruwa Ancient City is the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North

Central Province, Sri Lanka. The modern town of Polonnaruwa is also

known as New Town, and the other part of Polonnaruwa remains as the

royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa. The second oldest of

all Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first established as a military

post by the Sinhalese kingdom. The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been

declared a World Heritage Site.

MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK SAFARI

Set in the heart of the popular cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, Minneriya

National Park is mostly known for its incredible elephant migration, which is

one of Asia’s finest wildlife experiences. During the drier months of June to

September, as many as 300 elephants congregate in the Minneriya

National Park around the ancient Minneriya water tank (which dates back

to 3rd Century AD), taking advantage of the receding waters that provide

an important water source.

DAY 04. SIGIRIYA TO TRINCOMALEE.

SIGIRIYA VILLAGE TOUR

PIDURANGALA ROCK

Pidurangala is a massive rock formation located a few kilometers north of

Sigiriya in Sri Lanka. It has an interesting history closely related to that of

the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Climbing to the top of Pidurangala Rock is more

strenuous than climbing Sigiriya. If you are fit and adventurous it is a climb

worth making. It will take you about two hours. There is far less to see on

this site than Sigiriya.

DAY 05. TRINCOMALEE TO NILAWELI.

SNORKELING AT THE PIGEON ISLAND

Pigeon Island National Park is one of the two marine national parks of Sri

Lanka. The national park is situated 1 km off the coast of Nilaveli, a coastal

town in Eastern Province, encompassing a total area of 471.429 hectares.

The island's name derives from the rock pigeon which has colonized it.

KONESWARAM TEMPLE

Koneswaram temple of Trincomalee or Thirukonamalai Konesar Temple –

The Temple of the Thousand Pillars and Dakshina-Then Kailasam is a

classical-medieval Hindu temple complex in Trincomalee, a Hindu religious

pilgrimage center in Eastern Province, Sri Lanka.

DAY 06. TRINCOMALEE TO KANDY.

SPICE & HERBAL GARDEN

About 1500 species of medicinal plants are used in Sri Lanka and 208 of

them are frequently used. The knowledge of the people about many

hereditary medicinal plants is very poor. These are very problems identify

the medicinal value of the so used 208 species of medicinal plants.

Indigenous medical practitioners should collect particularly and receives

and arrive of a decision by the indigenous medical practitioners in this

connection. This type of cultivation project is implemented to establish

national level medicinal plants garden to preserve ancient medicinal plant

gardens and to propagate medicinal plant cultivation. The gardens

KANDY TOOTH

RELIC TEMPLE

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a

Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the

royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses

the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important

role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic

holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the

Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the

temple. Rituals are performed three times daily: at dawn, at noon and

in the evenings. On Wednesdays there is a symbolic bathing of the

relic with an herbal preparation made from scented water and

fragrant flowers.

KANDY CULTURAL

DANCE

The ritualistic dances of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) have attained world fame for

their mystical beauty. Literary drama has not flourished, because the

monks of predominantly Buddhist Sri Lanka shunned theatre. Dramatic

activity found expression in exorcism ceremonies and masked dramas that

employed mime, song, dance, acrobatics, and bits of prose dialogue.

Heavily influenced by India, Sri Lanka’s Kandyan dance and kolam plays

have South Indian origins. But over the centuries these have been

transformed and now have a distinctly Sri Lankan character.

DAY 07. KANDY TO NUWARA ELIYA.

RAMBODA WATERFALLS

Ramboda Falls is 109m (358 ft.) high and the 11 th highest waterfall in

Srilanka and 729 th highest waterfall in the world. It is situated in Pussellawa

area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. It is formed by Panna Oya

which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya. Altitude of the falls is 945m (3,100 ft.)

above sea level.

DAMRO TEA FACTORY

Established nearly 150 years ago, is perhaps the second oldest tea

plantation in the Island. Visitors having taken time in observing the

manufacturing process of tea, need only to stroll a short distance, to enter

one of the most desired locations in the hill country that being the “DAMRO

LABOOKELLIE TEA LOUNGE”.

It overlooks breathtaking views of tea gardens in all shades of green that

carpet the slopes of surrounding hills & valleys and those observant could

also spot within fields the gentle movement of tea pluckers, nimbly

harvesting the tender two leaves & bud.

DAY 08. NUWARA ELIYA TO ELLA.

HORTON PLAINS

Horton Plains National Park is a protected area in the central highlands

of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest.This

plateau at an altitude of 2,100–2,300 meters (6,900–7,500 ft.) is rich in

biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region.

This region was designated a national park in 1988. It is also a popular

tourist destination.

TRAIN RIDE NANU OYA TO ELLA

The train trip from Nanu Oya to Ella in Sri Lanka, or the other way

around, is considered to be one of the most beautiful train trips in the

world. This train ride is 3 hours long and takes you through stunning

landscapes of green and lush tea plantations and mountain views.

DAY 09. ELLA TO GALLE.

LITTLE ADAMS PEAK

Little Adams Peak is named after the sacred Adams Peak regarding

the similarity between the two mountains. Therefore, the mountain is

called the Little Adams Peak. The hike includes 5,000-6,000 crumbling

steps and incline trekking, but technical climbing is not required.

Depending on the trail taken, the crowd and the climbers' fitness level,

the mountain can take approximately two to four hours to climb and one

to two hours to descend.

NINE ARCH BRIDGE

The Nine Arche Bridge also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a bridge in

Srilanka. It’s one of the best examples of colonial-era railway

construction in the attributed to a local Ceylonese builder,

P.K. Appuhami, in consultation with British Engineers. Height: 24m / Total

Length: 91m.

UDAWALAWA NATIONAL PARK

The national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals

displaced by the construction of the Udawalawa Reservoir on the

Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir. The

reserve covers 30,821 hectares (119.00 sq. mi) of land area and was

established on 30 June 1972.Udawalawa is an important habitat for

water birds and Sri Lankan elephants. It is a popular tourist destination

and the third most visited park in the country.

DAY 10. GALLE TO AIRPORT.

GALLE DUTCH FORTRESS

Galle Fort in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built

first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch

during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. The heritage value of the fort

has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a

cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv, for its

unique exposition of "an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of

European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th

centuries.

SEA TURTLE HATCHERY

There are five varieties of Sea Turtles found in Sri Lanka, namely Olive

Ridley Turtle, Loggerhead Turtle, Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and

Leatherhead Turtle. The all major nesting habitats are located in the Galle

district.
