The Cradle of Humankind is a paleoanthropological site located about 50 km northwest of Johannesburg. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the largest collection of human ancestral remains anywhere in the world. The site contains a preserved record of the various stages in the evolution of humankind over 3.5 million years.
There are several attractions available at the Cradle of Humankind, including:
Maropeng Visitor Centre: A world-class exhibition that showcases the development of humans over millions of years 45.
Sterkfontein Caves: A series of limestone caves that have produced many of the most famous hominid fossils in the world, including “Mrs. Ples” and “Little Foot”
Cradle of Humankind Origin Farm: A farm that offers tours and experiences that allow visitors to learn about the history of humankind.
It also has optional activities present in the precinct such as; restaurants, coffee shops, conference centers, cycle tracks, horse trails, and hot-air ballooning.
NB: The Sterkfontein caves are temporarily closed and are unavailable. The Wonder Cave is available as an alternative guided tour.
The entrance fees of the Wonder Cave are much higher therefore if the customer chooses to go to the Wonder Cave the difference will be at the customer's cost.
