What's included
Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel (1,400m)
You arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. From here you will be taken in a private vehicle to your hotel by your guide from Glorious Himalaya Trek where you can rest or take a short walk around the Thamel area.
Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m) and trek to Phakding (2,650m) 3-4 hrs trek
We will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport in Kathmandu. A quick, 25-30-minute flight from Kathmandu will take you to Lukla (2,840m), the gateway to the Khumbu region and the starting point of this trek.
Travel through the Dudhkoshi River Valley, past various settlements such as Chheplung and Chaurikharka, before reaching Phakding. Enjoy great views of the Himalayas during the trek. It's a leisurely day with a gradual descent of approximately 200 meters.
Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440m) - 6 hrs trek
It’s a new day and we rise early for breakfast. Once we’ve enjoyed a hearty meal, we begin our trek to the capital of the Sherpa people. Namche Bazar is built on the side of a hill with colorful houses, typical of traditional Sherpa architecture. It’s a beautiful little village and it will take us around six hours of trekking to get there.
We rise in elevation today, crossing suspension bridges over the Dudh Khola River. Its swirling cold waters are a milky color, which gives the river its name (Dudh is the Nepali word for milk). Once we arrive in Namche Bazar, we will spend two nights in the village
Day 04: Acclimatization day
Today has been set aside in order to allow you to acclimatize before heading for higher altitudes. Health experts recommend being active during acclimatization to reap its maximum benefits. You have several options to choose from.
You can either book a hike to Thamel or visit Khunde. Alternatively, if your timing is right, you can also use this time to explore Namche Bazaar and check out its weekly market that takes place on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. Your guide can also take you to the visitor center near the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park which has an interesting display of equipment used by some of the first Everest climbers. While in the center, you can also learn more about the flora and fauna of the region.
Day 05: Trek to Tengboche (3,870m) - 6 hrs trek
We say goodbye to Namche Bazar and head up the trail to the picturesque little village of Tengboche. The forests of the Khumbu are becoming thinner as we gain in elevation.
Tengboche village features some of the finest views of the peaks of the Everest region. The village sits in the shadow of Mt. Ama Dablam. Here we will find the world’s highest Buddhist monastery. The monastery was destroyed by a fire in 1989 but with international funds and volunteers from around the world, the monastery was rebuilt. From here, we can see such peaks as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Thamserku as well as Ama Dablam.
Day 06: Trek to Dingboche (4,400m) - 6 hrs trek
Today is a more relaxed day as you follow a relatively easy trail to Dingboche. The only exception is a steep hill which you will have to climb in the last part of this journey. Travel past the villages of Somare (4,010m) and Orsho. Further along the trail, you will encounter a fork in the path and take the trail to the left which heads for Pheriche Village. Your day comes to an end on reaching Dingboche.
Day 07: Another acclimatization day
The settlement of Dingboche is gorgeous, with fields and pastures flanked by stone walls. Explore the village or relax in your hotel and allow your body to acclimatize to the changing altitude. You can also participate in one of our optional hikes to Nangkartshang Peak or the Chhukung Valley.
Day 08: Trek to Lobuche (4,900m) - 5 hrs trek
We’ve adjusted once more to the new elevations and are now making our way closer to Everest Base Camp (EBC). The villages up here are definitely few and far between. The farms here are few and what can be grown up here amounts to just buckwheat and potatoes. Yaks are raised, but not much else in the way of livestock.
We have more panoramic views of the high mountains today as there is very little in the way of vegetation to block our views. It does get windy up here, so it’s advisable to have a warm jacket. We will cover a distance of 12 km, taking between 6 – 7 hours to reach Lobuche. When we arrive, we will put in for the night at a local tea house that promises hot food.
Day 09: Trek to Gorakshep and visit Everest Base Camp (5463m) 8-9 hrs trek
The first section of the trail will take you to Gorakshep via the Khumbu Glacier. Drop your bags and enjoy your lunch in Gorakshep before heading to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). The trail takes you through terrain strewn with rocks, moraines, streams and a glacier. Reach Everest Base Camp, located in the middle of the Khumbu Glacier. Return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.
If you can muster some energy and if the weather gods permit, we will hike up to Kala Patthar late in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. Please note that it's not easy to cover Gorakshep, Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar on the same day.
Day 10: Hike up to Kalapather and trek to Pheriche (4,320m) - 7-8 hrs trek
Head for Kala Patthar in the pre-dawn darkness, when temperatures are between -10 to -14°C. There is also a possibility of encountering strong winds along the way. You can see peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse and Changtse to your east along the way.
Reach the summit of Kala Patthar and take in the 360-degree view of the looming Mount Everest. Now is the time to take some awesome snaps of the Himalayas. Descend to Pheriche, where you will stay overnight.Day
Day 11: Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440m) - 6-7 hrs trek
Hike through rhododendron forest before reaching Tengboche and descend to Phunki Thenga, a settlement located on the banks of Imja Khola. Your day comes to an end on reaching Namche Bazaar.
Day 12: Trek to Lukla (2,800m) - 6-7 hrs trek
It’s our final day of trekking and we make our way to Lukla where we will catch the flight back to Kathmandu. We are now trekking in dense jungles once more. We descend further and further, crossing the Dudh Koshi River. We also leave Sagarmatha National Park about halfway through the day.
We will trek for around 6 – 7 hours, covering 16 km. In the evening, we stay in Lukla to prepare to catch our morning flight back to Nepal’s capital city.
Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu
Catch a morning flight back to Kathmandu. Check into your hotel in the city on arrival. You might want to do some last-minute shopping while in the city or catch up with friends. You can also unwind by wandering through Thamel if you wish to. Attend a celebratory dinner with us tonight.
Day 14: Departure from Nepal
It’s time to leave for your next destination. Before leaving, be sure to talk to your friends at Glorious Himalaya Trek about other amazing tours of Nepal and the surrounding countries. There is so much more to see in the Himalayas and more adventure certainly awaits you upon your return!
