Itinerary
The journey to the enchanting Rara Lake begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, located in the southwestern region of Nepal. After a brief stay, you embark on another flight to Simikot, a remote town that serves as the starting point of your trekking adventure. From Simikot, the trek takes you along an off-the-beaten path through some of Nepal’s most untouched and serene landscapes.
For around ten days, you’ll pass through charming, traditional villages, experiencing the rich culture of the local communities. The trail winds through dense forests, with towering pine and fir trees, and leads you across picturesque grasslands and riverbanks. The trek features a mix of challenging ascents and descents, making it an adventurous and fulfilling experience for trekkers. Each day brings new vistas and peaceful surroundings, culminating in the arrival at Rara Lake, the largest lake in Nepal and a true natural wonder, nestled in the remote northwestern mountains.
The Rara Lake Trek is not categorized as a high-altitude trek, which means that issues related to hypoxia are generally not a concern. However, it is important to be physically fit and ready to face challenges along the way, as you’ll be navigating agricultural trails that are less traveled. If you choose to visit during the spring months of March, April, or May, you’ll be treated to the breathtaking sight of blooming rhododendron trees. Alternatively, trekking in the autumn season offers pleasant weather and stunning views of the surrounding landscapes and majestic Himalayan peaks.
