Everest Base Camp Horse Riding Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu - Pre-Departure Briefing

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, you will be greeted by your trekking team. After checking into your hotel, you'll have a pre-departure briefing to go over the itinerary, safety protocols, and any last-minute preparations needed for the trek. This is also a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to enjoy a taste of Nepali culture.

Day 2: Lukla Arrival - Descent to Phakding on Horseback

The next morning, you will take an early flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a scenic journey that offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Once in Lukla, you’ll meet your horses and begin your descent to Phakding, which is approximately a 3-hour ride away. The trail meanders through charming villages and beautiful landscapes, providing a gentle introduction to the trekking experience.

Day 3: Crossing the Dudh Koshi River - Arrival in Namche Bazaar

On Day 3, you will continue your journey by crossing the Dudh Koshi River, a significant milestone in your trek. After traversing the suspension bridge, you will ride along the river valley, passing through lush forests and terraced fields. After about 5-6 hours of riding, you will arrive at Namche Bazaar, the bustling gateway to the Everest region. Known for its vibrant markets and stunning mountain views, Namche offers a chance to acclimatize while exploring the local culture.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Day 4 is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitude. You can take short rides or hikes to nearby viewpoints, such as the Everest View Hotel, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Everest and other surrounding peaks. Namche Bazaar is also home to various shops, cafes, and the local Sherpa museum, providing plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the culture.

Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Monastery

On Day 5, you will embark on a ride from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Monastery, one of the most significant monasteries in the Khumbu region. The journey will take approximately 5 hours, with the trail winding through lush forests and offering spectacular views of the iconic Ama Dablam mountain. Upon reaching Tengboche, you can explore the monastery and witness the tranquil atmosphere as monks perform their rituals against the backdrop of the towering peaks.

Day 6: Tengboche Monastery to Dingboche

Day 6 takes you on a ride from Tengboche to Dingboche, approximately 5-6 hours away. The trail continues through the beautiful landscapes of the Khumbu region, crossing rivers and climbing through scenic hills. Dingboche, located at a higher altitude, offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the towering Lhotse and Makalu peaks. This day marks an important step in acclimatization as you ascend further into the Himalayas.

Day 7: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Another acclimatization day, Day 7, allows you to adjust to the altitude while exploring Dingboche. You can take short rides or hikes to nearby viewpoints, including Nagarjun Hill, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Engaging with the local Sherpa community and learning about their traditions can also enhance your experience during this important acclimatization period.

Day 8: Dingboche to Lobuche

On Day 8, you’ll ride from Dingboche to Lobuche, a journey that typically takes around 5-6 hours. The trail gradually ascends through rocky terrains and offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding peaks, including Nuptse and Pumori. Upon arriving in Lobuche, you'll find a small settlement that serves as a crucial stop for trekkers heading toward Everest Base Camp.

Day 9: Lobuche – Gorakshep - Everest Base Camp

Day 9 is a thrilling highlight of your trek as you ride from Lobuche to Gorakshep, and then on to Everest Base Camp. This day will involve a combination of riding and walking, as you’ll leave your horses at Gorakshep and trek the final distance to Everest Base Camp, which takes about 2-3 hours. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by stunning views of the Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding mountains, providing a profound sense of achievement.

Day 10: Gorakshep – Kala Patthar – Pheriche

On Day 10, an early morning ride to Kala Patthar is in store. This viewpoint is renowned for its spectacular sunrise views over Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. After taking in the breathtaking scenery, you’ll ride back to Gorakshep and then descend to Pheriche, a journey of approximately 5-6 hours. Pheriche offers a quieter atmosphere and stunning views of the Himalayas, making it a perfect spot to relax.

Day 11: Pheriche to Namche

Day 11 involves riding back to Namche Bazaar from Pheriche, which will take about 6-7 hours. The descent through the beautiful landscapes will be a welcome change as you retrace your steps, allowing you to soak in the views and reflect on the incredible journey you’ve undertaken.

Day 12: Descent to Lukla - Flight to Kathmandu

On Day 12, you will descend to Lukla, a journey of approximately 7 hours. The ride provides a perfect opportunity to appreciate the lush greenery and charming villages along the way. Upon arriving in Lukla, you will take a flight back to Kathmandu. In the event of flight delays, you may need to stay an extra night in Lukla.

Day 13: Departure Day

Your final day, Day 13, will be a time for reflection as you prepare for your departure from Kathmandu. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to explore the city, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a last taste of Nepali cuisine before heading to the airport for your onward journey.
