Description
Inle Lake is situated in the hilly Shan State in the eastern part of Myanmar. With an elevation of 900 meters above sea-level, it is one of the main tourist attractions in Myanmar. The lake, 22 km long and 10 km wide, has a population of some 150,000, many of whom live on floating islands of vegetation.
This natural Inle Lake is famous for its scenic beauty and the unique leg-rowing of the Inthas, the native lake-dwellers. Moreover, floating villages, colorful daily floating markets, and Inle Spa are places worthy of a visit.
The festival of Phaung-daw-Oo Pagoda in Inle Lake held during October is full of pageantry and colorful splendor.
Firstly, your boat will take Indein, a collection of small and beautiful temples located on the hill. And then continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, where five Buddha images heavily covered with gold foils in daily devotion, made the images to disappear its form and look like the gold balls rather than Buddha images. It is the major pilgrimage site of locals in Inle Lake.
Proceed to the old Nga Pe Chaung Wooden Monastery to see very fine and old wood carvings of religious artifacts inside it. Those who are interested in traditional handicrafts can visit cottage workshops in such as silversmith, boat making, and silk and lotus fiber weaving workshops.
On the way back to the hotel, visit the small man-made floating islands where Inthar people grow tomato, onion, and gourd and seasonal flowers.
