Description
On the Mount Kenya Trek, access to the peaks is given by this route if we are planning to come from the eastern side. The route leads from Chogoria town and this makes it one of the best routes in the premises. It was opened in the 1920s by Earnest Carr who made vehicle track over here till the moorland. Nonetheless, it is the longest Mount Kenya Trek as compared to others.
One can camp along with the road head where the stream water is available. Lake Michaelson down the road can also be viewed from the Mintos Hut which is situated at the height of 4300 m. Breathtaking views are there to enjoy from Nithi George if you would walk 10 minutes in the south-eastern direction till the edge of the temple.
The Mount Kenya Trek continues to Austria Hut from the Hall Tarn via Tooth Col and Square Tarn, then towards the round head of Hobley Valley. However, the route starting from the Simba Col. To the Shipton’s camp can also be used.
Head towards down the road Simba Tarn and then take a left turn in the direction of Shipton’s Camp. Naro Moru Route is an alternative. Hikers can reach Point Lenana via this also. You can submit this route only in three days and there are bunkhouses at each camp, hence carrying a tent along with is not mandatory. Except for one section named vertical blog, the overall terrain is absolutely good.
Mount Kenya Trek after starting from the Naro Moru town crossed through the Southern and Northern Naro Moru Rivers nearby Park Headquarters. There is a meteorological station at the road head where you can drive only in the dry season. This path leads us to the Northern Naro Moru Valley.
