Description
If you join our Mount Kenya Hike to the Summit of Mt. Kenya and Circuit main peaks would start from the nearby Shipton’s Camp from where you will start moving upward to the Kami Hut. Pass by the Hausberg Col. & then descend towards Hausberg Tarn and Oblong. Make a short stay at this beautiful place. The path from here to onward goes in between the two tarns to reach to the ultimate point called Nanyuki Tarn, which serves as a base also.
It is interesting to see that the path then shifts towards left and go down to the Arthurs seat. Continue your Mount Kenya Hike on it and pass nearby Tarn and then summit the short rocky section. The overall path is zigzag which finally takes you to the Tow Tarn Hut which is at an approximate elevation of 4,490 m. Pass by the right side of Tarn and reach the highest point from where you can enjoy the amazing scenery of Teleki Valley. A little down traveling from this point will lead you to the Mackinder Camp.
A trek from the American Camp also meets at the Mackinder Camp. The hiking trail leading to Austrian Hut can also be seen from the opposite side of the Valley. Just be on this path to reach the valley. You will come across large buttresses and boulders scree to reach the Tooth Col. Tooth col offers you the viewpoints of Hall Tarns and Georges Valley. The zig-zag journey continues which gets you to the Simba town and then to the lower Simba Tarn and finally to the Shiptons Camp.
The overall time to complete the trip would take eleven hours. The trip should be divided into two in the Teleki Valley near Mackinder’s camp. Trails should be followed strictly. Because moving away from the trail will damage the vegetation and soil erosion. Therefore, it is advisable to follow the trek instead of making new.
