Highlights
Description
In 2020 Terredamare has entered in the world of citizen science both to create a database on some of the species that inhabit the Ligurian Sea and to share more knowledge about our sea with customers. Our Snorkeling Tours are part of the Citizen Blue Project, a local marine fauna census project in the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area, with the aim of evaluating changes in quantity and habits. Waterproof pictures of fishes will be provided to recognize and locate them, and, at the end of the excursion, a diploma will be issued to each participant. It will be a fantastic opportunity to feel as an active part of the territory, to experience the Ligurian Sea and to be able to contribute to the conservation and health of this splendid strip of land moistened by the sea. This activity is not intended to replace the official one carried out by the Marine Protected Area of the Cinque Terre and the bodies with which it collaborates.
With the project's success, other regions and countries could benefit and replicate this multidisciplinary approach, helping the preservation and restoration of marine ecosystems worldwide. Together, we can continue to protect and restore our precious marine resources, ensuring a thriving future for our oceans and all life they support.
Fish watching is a non-invasive citizen science activity, it is about recognizing species and counting the specimens you see swimming along a specific route; it is easy and funny.
