Discover Heidelberg

We will start our tour at the industrial monument Heinsteinwerk in Wieblingen’s tranquil quarter along the road Wieblinger Weg. The first leg will lead us across the Neckar river via the weir. we are now on the northern bank of the river and continue cycling along the district “Im Neuenheimer Feld” which features the uni campus and several hospitals. Afterwards we’ll pass the noble and quite posh Neuenheim with its beautiful parklike area “Neckarwiese”.

Heading east, we will get closer to the Old Bridge and can take in the spectacular view of the castle on the opposite side of the river valley. The path across the bridge leads us right into the heart of the old town. We’ll see the church of the holy spirit (Heiliggeistkirche), more parts of the university and the pedestrianised high street with its world famous flair.

We will now leave the old town and continue to Heidelberg’s 19th century Gründerzeit quarter Weststadt which also features the mountain cemetery or Bergfriedhof. We’ll continue to Heidelberg’s newest and most modern quarter called Bahnstadt (which used to be the freight yard) via former railway lines.

We will then conclude the tour back at the Heinsteinwerk where we started.
