The Karnak Temple Complex

The begining of construction at the complex during the Middle Kingdom ( 2000BC) and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom (305–30 BCE), although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut ("The Most Selected of Places") and the main place of worship of the 18th Dynastic Theban Triad, with the god Amun Re as its head.

Luxor Temple

The temple was built by Amenhotep III (1390-52 BC) but completed by Tutankhamun (1336-27 BC) and Horemheb (1323-1295 BC) and then added to by Rameses II (1279-13 BC).

Toward the rear is a granite shrine dedicated to Alexander the Great (332-305 BC) .
