Description
You will be picked up from your hotel or cruise ship in Luxor and we will take you to the two most striking temples in the city.
The temple complex of Karnak, located about two kilometers north of today's city of Luxor near the Nile, is the largest of all preserved temple complexes in Egypt with an area of 30 hectares.
The complex, which actually consists of several temples, was expanded and expanded right into the Roman Empire.
Particularly striking is the large pillared hall of the main temple dedicated to Amun Re, which is still largely intact today and which you cross past a collosal statue of Ramses II and thus reach the 120x77 meter large holy lake, which was artificially created in Pharaonic times.
Even in midsummer it is pleasantly cool and shady under the 22 meter high pillars.
Toilet facilities are of course available. Numerous retailers offer their goods and cool drinks for you to purchase.
Photography is of course allowed.
From the temple area of Karnak, an avenue lined with stone rams, which is currently being completely uncovered and restored, leads to the Luxor Temple, which is now located in the middle of the city of Luxor.
However, you do not have to walk this route and will of course be driven.
The Luxor Temple is smaller than that of Karnak but no less worth seeing.
To this day, the pylons at the entrance are lined with two large statues depicting the Pharaoh Ramses II. Of the two obelisks that once stood next to it, one is now in Paris.
What is striking is that a mosque was once built into the temple, which today gives the temple a very special look and makes it unmistakable.
