Description
1) Strahov monastery
Our walk starts at our meeting point Pohořelec, which is a foreground of a Prague historical district Hradčany, where the Prague Castle is situated. We will see some publicly accessible parts of the oldest still operating norbertin monastery in the world, the Strahov monastery, above all its magnificent library containing unique medieval manuscripts.
2) The Strahov Monastic Brewery
We also visit a small local brewery situated in the monastery site and eventually taste their awesome beer.
3) Loreta
Our next stop will be in the Loreta square where, opposite to the monumental Černín palace,
the most desirable aim of pilgrims in baroque times - Loreta, is situated. After listening to the wonderful chimes we visit the Loreto Chapel Santa Casa and make a walk through the magnificent church of the Lord’s Birth and adjacent ambits with plenty of valuable statues and paintings. Finally, we visit the Treasury exhibiting plenty of liturgical objects made of precious materials as gold, silver or diamonds.
4) The New World
On our journey from Pohořelec to the Lesser Town we can ´t miss the most romantic corner of the Hradčany area – so called The New World, a little maze of curvy streets with tiny houses and palaces like from the other centuries. Here we can make a short stop to visit the army church of St John of Nepomuk, which was recently dedicated to all war victims.
5) Hradcanske Square
We move down to Hradcanske Square where you can see many historical buildings linked to the rich Czech history standing in the very neighborhood of Prague Castle. We will pass by an impressive entrance to the Castle complex and will continue to a local ramp from where you can take the most beautiful pics of Prague panorama.
6) Little Town Square
From Hradčany hill we descend Staré zámecké schody ( Old castle stairs ) and reach the district Malá Strana or Lesser Town where we visit its dominant – the jesuite church and the bell tower of St Nicolas, the largest and the most impressive baroque church in Prague.
7) Our Lady Victorious and the Infant Jesus of Prague
After a filling traditional lunch we must not forget to visit the world – famous statuette of the Infant Jesus of Prague in the nearby church of Our Lady Victorious. This statue attracts annually thousands of believers and pilgrims from all a over the world.
8) Petrin Tower
Then we take the funicular to Petřín Hill and finally we climb up together the Czech version of the Eiffel Tower – Petřínská rozhledna. Our reward will be a panoramic view of the large Prague - not only of the center but also of its suburbs and more distant surroundings, e.g. volcanoes of the České Středohoří mountains. From there we will return through the beautiful nature of Petřín park and Strahov gardens back to Pohořelec where we finish our walk.
