Description
This tour is provided by Monterrasol Travel, a company that specializes in year-round multi-day private car tours for small groups across Central and Southern Europe, especially Greece and the Balkans.
We welcome you to explore with us the medieval land of Bosnia-Herzegovina by scenic roads with a short 3 days discovery tour from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo.
With this tour, we will see the most important attractions in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the country of medieval old towns, Ottoman fortresses, Orthodox monasteries, clean rivers, tasty food served in good portions, well-known wines, and friendly people.
The tour will start with a visit to the old Orthodox monastery Tvrdos, which has its own wine cellar, where we will taste local wines (red, white, and rose). Next, on the way to Mostar, we will visit a beautiful cave (UNESCO Tentative List site) under the supervision and with explanations of a local speleologist, come to explore the medieval hilly fortress Stolac, see the Radimlja archaeological site (UNESCO World Heritage site) with medieval carved tombstones, and finish this day with a walk through the cobbled streets of the historical center of Mostar, together with the famous Mostar bridge.
On the next day, we will explore several interesting places around Mostar. We will come to climb the narrow streets of medieval town Pocitelj, which serves as an open-air museum; we will visit the real Roman Villa Rustica, established as an agricultural estate in the 4th century AD; we will visit the natural park Kravica with its amazing, beautiful waterfalls; and at the end of this day, we will visit the pilgrimage center Medjugorje.
The next day will bring us to Blagaj dervish monastery (known also as Blagaj tekke) built in 1520, located in a picturesque place beneath a high vertical cliff and near by the source Buna river emerging from a huge karstic cavern. Following that, on our way to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, we will see the old Ottoman bridge in Konjic and learn what the so-called Tunnel of Hope meant to the people of Sarajevo during the siege. Next, we will walk across the historical center of Sarajevo and have dinner in some local restaurant to taste Bosnian food and wine.
Overall, with this tour you will visit 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites and 4 sites from the UNESCO Tentative List.
We provide this tour year-round. We recommend you consider having a tour before or after the high season, when it is not so hot and not so crowded but all the sights and attractions are already or are still open. Especially, this applies to elderly people, who need to be careful with sun exposure and high temperatures.
We, at Monterrasol Travel, practice the Slow Tourism philosophy. That means that we work our tours at a pace that allows our clients to have a more authentic experience and a true exploration of each destination we visit. We dismiss the stress, the rush, the tight schedules and the crazy running from spot to spot, specially related to bus travel package tours for large groups.
We love to travel in a relaxed, not hurried way. All our tours have been designed with that key idea in mind, and try to keep balance between the places scheduled to visit and free time to take a break. Also, we do not like to keep our clients for a long time in the car due to the long distances between itinerary points, just the fair amount of time.
Transportation is in a minivan with air conditioner and English speaking driver. Feel free to ask to stop whenever you need, for a nice image or some snack.
This tour (same as the other tours we offer) is available in English and Spanish. Disponible en Español.
