The Tenerife Auditorium or Auditorio de Tenerife (in Spanish) is located on the Los Llanos waterfront of Santa Cruz, in between the edge of the Port & Marine Park as well as nearby The Avenue of the Constitution. It connects the city to the ocean. This concrete building is defined by its melodramatic roof. Roof’s height touches to 58 meters before curving down and tapering to a point. Design of this auditorium was given by Santiago Calatrava. Its construction took six years from 1997 to 2003. This building is an epitome of the advancement of the architecture of the 20th century. The stunning profile of the auditorium is an architectural symbol of the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
It is called the finest building in the Canary Islands. Spanish architecture can be truly seen in this building. This building’s name was changed from Auditorio de Tenerife to "Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín" in the memory of Adan Martin Menis, the president of Canary Islands. He was the man who made the construction of this building possible. Near to this auditorium are the two tallest buildings of Torres de Santa Cruz. The Tenerife Auditorium is the most photographed building of the city. This place has covered 23,000 m2 area. It is divided into mainly two chambers, the Main Hall and the Chamber Hall.
The building is mostly famous because of the great Arc. This auditorium has 1800 seats capacity and music hall chamber of 400 seats. Dressing rooms, technical facilities, chamber music hall, and general services are situated within the base and the base is covered with the volcanic Basalt rock, Main public access is via uplifted plaza in the northeast, under the curved concrete shell of roof. Services, administrative and central auditorium are air-conditioned, however, public halls and circulation areas are ventilated by the natural but pleasant climate. The roof is factually constructed from two traversing cone sections. The inner shell of the concrete hall is a kind of rotational body, describing an eclipse.
The overall body structure of the museum contrasts with the adjoining tangential shells. The building is normally lit in bright white light but made colorful during some special occasions. It hosts different cultural events and musical shows. In addition to this, conferences, conventions and product launches are also done here.
