Sherpa Culture Museum is a small museum run by Lhakpa Sonam, a local photographer. The museum is situated in Chhokrung along the trek to Everest base camp and has a fantastic collection of Sherpa cultural objects. Furthermore, many press cuttings and photos encompassing Everest mountaineers can also be seen. For example, you would find a collection of Tenzing Norgay’s photos of 1953 assessing the load of his porter’s.
Recently, a new photo gallery is being constructed in the courtyard. The Sherpa Culture Museum is a true depiction of Sherpa culture and architecture. A 20-minute walk from Namache’s center towards top of the hill will land you in the museum. Historic photos of international tourists surmounting Mt. Everest make the fine souvenirs. Library and conference hall associated with the museum presents a valuable research facility for those who have special liking for unique and cultural preservation.
