Pheriche is a village in eastern Nepal in Khumbu region at an altitude of 4371 m above the sea level. This beautiful village is famous amongst climbers and trekkers. Himalayan rescue association is operating an emergency hospital facility also over here which provides emergency treatment to the climbers as well as villagers.
Pheriche remained open only in two seasons around the year; March-May and October-December. The Pheriche village was basically a farming place, famous for growing yaks, potatoes and buckwheat. But with the passage of time and development of tourism, many locals are hired by the tourists as guides and bearers. Small lodges along the way are suitable for a short stay for the climbers traveling towards Mt. Everest Base camp. Therefore, it can be used as an acclimatization stopover also and preferred over nearby Dingboche stopover. Pheriche village was severely damaged in the earthquake of 2015 but since then locals with their own help are restructuring the whole locality.
