Naeroyfjord is one of the many branches of the Sognefjord, the King of Fjords in Norway. Naeroyfjord flows from another Sognefjord arm - Aurlandsfjord. In fact, this makes Naeroyfjord the wildest and the least touristic branch, which also turns out to be the narrowest of them all. It runs at a length of 17 kilometers, with its narrowest area being just 250 m, whereas the widest one takes up about 1 km.

In 2005, the fjord was claimed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, Naeroyfjord was also listed as the top world natural site, apart from Geirangerfjord. Tourists can take a scenic cruise through Aurlandsfjord and Naeroyfjord from Flåm to Gudvangen village or vice versa. A lot of visitors are up to kayaking through the fjords, too. And it is really worth it, with fjord's unbelievable beauty.

On your trip, you will see gorgeous steep mountains and their outlines, basking in that particularly ethereal blue haze, waterfalls streaming down from their tops, forests or even catch the glimpse of goats and seals! Also, you will definitely pass by ridiculously magical farm houses, looking like they just came out the fairy-tale. The villages you'll see are Flåm, Bakka (Bakker), Styvi, Dyrdal, and Gudvangen. A few exciting facts about those villages: right after Bakka village there are original historical Viking graves on the Holmo. Also, no roads can be found after this point - to go further, you will have to go by water. Styvi and Dyrdal villages are by far the wildest ones because they don't have any road connection as well, but in addition, there are no residents here during winter.

Gudvangen, the starting or ending point of the Naeroyfjord cruise, is a fascinating destination. Its name means "the place of gods" and here tourists have the chance to visit special village Njardarheimr, the authentic Viking village, to take a look at the original way of Viking life. Maybe you will even get lucky and make your way to the fair in Njardarheimr! A lot of visitors choose to come here during summer, which is quite understandable because of weather conditions.

However, each season manages to add a unique touch to the surroundings! In summer, green color and its various shades conquer the banks of the Naeroyfjord, while the rich blue and turquoise palette paints the sky, water, and mountains on the horizon. In autumn, the golden, crimson and orange tints dominate the whole landscape along with fresh and crispy air. In winter, the fjords are probably the living miracle with ice covering some parts, snowy mountain tops and severe but truly majestic gray skies and waters. Spring brings freshness, blossoming and light greenery to the table, which is also the sight to see. If you are ready to dive into the outstanding beauty of Naeroyfjord, then grab your camera, enthusiasm and warm clothes - you are on the right way!
