Mirador de San Bartolome is one of sixteen viewpoints situated on La Palma island that is famous for its Astro tourism. As the rest of the miradors, it is a perfect place for stargazing but also offers great panoramic views over the breathtaking landscapes of the island.

Located at the altitude of 439 meters, the Mirador de San Bartolome can be found in the northeastern part of La Palma and has basically two observation points. The lower platform provides a fantastic view of the ravines Barranco de la Galga with the bridge over it and Barranco de la Fuente. The top lookout platform demonstrates the view of the whole Puntallana town, and also offers two stellar maps, some information panels. In the neighborhood, there are a few local cuisine restaurants, as well as parking lots, so you will have a place to park your car if you decide to get to the mirador through Puntallana.

However, there is also the statue that gave another name to the viewpoint - The Lover's Leap (Mirador del Salto del Enamorado). The sculpture shows us the goatherd with a pole, the typical device the goatherds used to help them move around the steep grounds of San Bartolo mountain. The legends say that once a goatherd fell in love with a beautiful girl but that was unrequited love. The man followed the girl around and, finally, she told him that she will only love him if he jumps three times over the edge of the La Galga cliff. He agreed and passed twice as he jumped in the name of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. However, the third jump, dedicated to his beloved, was tragic and resulted in death, as he fell off the edge. Apart from the sad love story, you can also learn a thing or two about the night sky or even stay until dark to see the constellation of Virgo or even Lyra, if it's clear enough!
