Los Molinos village or Puertito de Los Molinos is a small hamlet of approximately fifteen people that is situated on the western coast of the Fuerteventura island, which belongs to the Canary archipelago. It's a very quiet but picturesque place that has so much on its plate you wouldn't believe your eyes!
First of all, the Los Molinos village is mainly famous due to its caves which cut deep into the rocks on the beach near the settlement. There are three primary cavities, the largest of them called Herminia cave. The place is often called a hidden gem, since it's not always accessible, only during low tides. Thus, before visiting it's higly recommended to check the tide cycles to be sure that you won't get into trouble. If you're very lucky and manage to climb into the caves, you will most definitely realize that it's worth the effort. The walls of caverns vary in colour from yellow to light blue and pink!
Apart from cliffs, there is also Los Molinos ravine trail running along the river to its bed for six kilometres. The road is perfect for hiking and is fairly easy for tourists, also offering wonderful views of the endemic plant species growing on its slopes.
The beach near Los Molinos village is quite small and mainly consists of dark rock and sand that can change in colour according to the season. During the most preferable season for tourism (from July to September), you will find brown or white fine sand on the shore. Howeber, be careful - the waves are reportedly strong and high which might not be the best condition for a swim. But surfers will surely be excited by such a weather!
The buildings of Los Molinos generally look like they were constructed long ago. One of them is popular local restaurant Casa Pon, glorified for its meals. Here, the visitor is served with simple but fresh and tasty food like papas arrugadas (potatoes), gnocchi, goat cheese, seafood dishes, etc. So, don't stay away from Casa Pon and come round if you feel hungry. At last, if you're keen on long walks, you can head south of the village, there is good news for you - in 1 km or a little further, some of the most beautiful beaches are situated, for example, Playa de Jarugo and Playa de La Mujer. All things considered, is it really possible to resist vising a small Los Molinos village on the ocean coast?
