La Orotava Valley is located in the northern part of Tenerife, Canary Island b/w Cuesta de la Villa. Dimensions of the valley are 10 Km x 11 Km and it expanses up to about 2000 m elevation. On the western side, the valley is surrounded by Ladera de Santa Ursula and Ladera de Tigaiga. Valley has derived its name from the largest town of the area, La Orotava.
Before the arrival of Spanish invaders when Guanches were living here, the valley was called Taoro. La Orotava Valley neighboring the Teide Volcano, highest and most visited point in the Tenerife. In terms of area, it is the largest locality of Tenerife having a population of around 45,000.
Land of the La Orotava Valley has been rich for cultivation. Agricultural products like Tomatoes, bananas, and wine were mainly exported to the UK and Europe. However, in 19th-century tourism gained impetus due to which many tourists, researchers, and writers traveled to this place. Northern European visit this place frequently especially in winter season owing to the popularity of this place over New Year and Christmas occasions.
Some of the other interesting sites in La Orotava are Casa Molin, La Casa de Los Balcones, El Ayuntamiento, and El Teide. The beautiful scenery of Los Realejos, La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz can be enjoyed from Humboldt point.
