The Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally unique town on the bank of the trading port since the 15th century. The architecture of the town gives us an understanding that how the locals and foreigners influenced the development of the town.
The Hoi An Ancient Town is in Vietnam’s central province on the northern bank of Thu Bon River. Port nearby the town remained active for hundreds of years and played a very important role in the development of northern Vietnam. The Hoi An contains almost 1107 buildings made of timber, reinforced with concrete and wooden walls. Houses can be seen tiled properly. A Japanese bridge having a pagoda on has its own uniqueness. The overall design is as such that customers' access to the town is completely taken into count while developing this small port town. Even to this day, the town is a major trading and commerce port in the area presenting an Asian look.
It is interesting to see that the Hoi An Ancient Town has kept its conventional wooden architecture in terms of its size, façade, roofline, and materials. The coastal environment of the seashore is serene and pure. Visitors come to see the town all over the year and observe how history and human beings have shaped the town. There is no plan at play to change the architecture or nature of the town in the future. The town was designated as the National Cultural Heritage Site in 1985. Hoi An is being protected by national laws and governmental designs.
For the time being, Hai An Center for Monuments Management and Preservation is responsible for all kinds of activities and events that are happening around the town. The revenue which is collected by the management by selling the tickets is spent on the up-gradation and maintenance of the town.
International research was also carried out in the past on the town to clearly understand the heritage of the town. Therefore, it can be said that the Hoi An Ancient Town is unique, historically and culturally rich and must be visited once in a lifetime if you ever would come to Vietnam.
