Ho Chi Mausoleum is a resting place of Vietnamese revolutionary leader and of course the president in Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi Vietnam. It is a magnificent building in the center of Ba Dinh Square where the Chairman of Worker’s Party of Vietnam read the Independence declaration in 1945 and stayed until his last breath.
The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is open to the public and anyone can visit and pay homage to the revolutionary leader of Vietnam. Upon reaching the mausoleum, you will find a queue of foreign as well as local tourists. Almost all the locals visiting Hanoi like to have an opportunity for pilgrimage at the burial place of the leader of their nation. Visitors are expected to collect their luggage at the door before entering the building. Respecting the norms is very important like no one can chatter, dress indecently and walk as per his wish as it is considered bad by the locals. Visitors are supposed to stay silent and walk steadily through the mausoleum courtyard.
Formal construction work on the Mausoleum was commenced in 1973 and it was finally inaugurated in 1975. The design of this beautiful structure is taken from Lenin’s mausoleum in Moscow - a typical structure for the communist idols. However, ingredients of Vietnamese culture are also visible like a sloping roof, etc. It is significant to mention that Ho Chi Minh never aspired to be buried the way he is. Despite this fact, his nation honored him with the regard which was given to the Lenin upon his death.
The exterior of the building is made of granite and the interior is fitted with beautifully crafted red, black and grey polished stones. Word Chu Tich Ho Ch Minh is written across the building. Body of President Ho Chi Minh is in the main hall of the mausoleum, preserved since his death. Military guards protect it round the clock. The changing ceremony of guards takes place in the mid-morning, partly for the pleasure and benefit of visitors. Body of the president is kept in a glass case with dim lights.
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum remained open to the public for the whole week but Monday & Friday. Mausoleum has the title of most visited place in Hanoi due to the person buried over here. Due to huge historical importance, it cannot be regarded as an average attraction. Vietnam’s government also pay special attention with reference to the facilities being provided over at the Mausoleum. If you want to avoid the rush, reach early between 7 AM to 8 AM. Photography is prohibited inside the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. So avoid it.
