Forest of Los Tilos is a unique ecosystem situated on the island of La Palma, which belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. It grows in the northeastern part of La Palma, being 24 kilometers away from the city and the municipality Santa Cruz de la Palma.

The forest is part of La Palma's UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve since 1983 and is open to the public any time of day throughout the whole year. The exceptionality of Los Tilos forest can be easily explained by the fact that it is one of the only laurel forests that survived from the Tertiary period right till the present day.

By the way, the Tertiary era was the period when Laurisilva forests were prospering and covering huge areas of southern Europe and North Africa but later became almost extinct. This means that now we have the chance to walk through the virgin forest that once had dinosaurs strolling its trails.

Los Tilos woods are really the place of rare and almost exclusive ancient natural beauty and nowadays there aren't many of such places left on the planet. Not only that, the forest is home to the extraordinary endemic flora and fauna. Even if you aren't the most enthusiastic nature lover or don't consider yourself as an expert in Botanics, you can still appreciate the fact that a lot of plants and trees growing here cannot be found elsewhere. Los Tilos woods have such rare residents as barbuzanos, peralillos, Laureles, madroños and enormous ferns, of course, and it's only to name a few! As for the forest fauna, the most popular stars here are Laurel's Pigeon and Bolle's Pigeon, together with myriads of various spineless organisms. In humid weather, the forest produces specific clouds that encompass the tops of the trees, hang from the branches along with droplets of water, creating an entrancing atmosphere of the magic wood, drowning in the semi-transparent white haze.

You can simply get lost amid the thickets of Los Tilos, but don't worry - there are three popular tracks that offer exploration of the forest from different sides. You can get acquainted with them in the interpretation center, located before the Los Tilos forest and containing lounge zones and cafeteria for visitors, as well as self-guided instructions and information about the environment of the woods. One of the most popular paths for tourists is the one that takes you to Marcos y Cordero water source with springs and waterfalls pouring down and contrasting with the green scenery, surrounding them. Also, Los Tilos forest has two miradors, from where you can see the full view of the jungles from up above. However, you can choose any of them depending on which track you take, because both miradors offer almost identical panoramas.
