As you first time read the name of Forbidden Purple City, it might come to your mind that Forbidden City is in Beijing but let me tell you Forbidden Purple City in hue Vietnam is an amazing attraction waiting for you to come and explore.
Hue remained the capital of Vietnam from 1802 to 1945 under the dynasty of the Nguyen Dynasty. Dynasty made it the cultural, political and economic hub in the country, however, the past glory of it was still required to be discovered. Hue’s monument is the world heritage site as declared by UNESCO in 1993. It has different 14 sites that surround the city. World Heritage Bonanza site includes the forbidden purple city and the famous Hue Imperial Tombs which are scattered across the banks of Perfume River. You are suggested to pay a visit to the Imperial city when you would be exploring the Forbidden Purple City.
Forbidden Purple City is basically a walled city which is covered by the huge citadel complex on the banks of the Perfume River. A large moat covering the Citadel area is very easy to locate on google map. Multiple bridges are constructed connecting the citadel to the rest of Hue. Apart from this, a small wall fortification made of stones is also built around the whole complex. As you would advance into the city, a different world would welcome you. The imperial complex city is a world in itself. Put simply the Forbidden city is a complex of different buildings that were used by the ruling emperor, his family, and the court ladies. As per the old traditions, living inside a walled city was the safest thing to do in those times. As of today, a hefty sum of 150,000 VND is charged to enter into the city.
Tickets can be purchased from the box located nearby the main entrance. Enter in the complex via Noon Gate which is being used by the visitors. The gate showcases the glory of old times. After coming through the Noon gate, the first building you will enter-in is the Palace of Supreme Harmony. Many images are on display to portray how the city was when constructed in old times. Many areas which have been damaged by the time are being renovated for the tourists. It needs to be the mind that the actual Forbidden Purple City was damaged during the heavy shelling and bombing in 1968. Americans declared victory over the city after heavy shelling and destroying the city. However, damage to the city is considered the end of public support for US forces.
In short, the Forbidden Purple City is a wonderful place to visit and everyone must pay a short visit to the place.
