El Drago or Dragon Tree is to Cape Verde, Morocco, Madeira, and the Canary Islands. Blue Chaffinch and dragon tree are regarded as natural symbols of the Canary Islands. The Dragon Tree tree is placed in the Asparagus family and has branching growth patterns as it is of monocot type. It has a single stem until it is young. After almost 15 years of its life, it will produce first flower spike and lily-like perfumed flowers. Afterward, a bunch of buds grows. And each branch continues to grow for at least 10 to 15 years. It then re-branches. The tree developed into an umbrella-like shape. The growth rate of this tree is very slow. It takes almost ten years to grow up to 2 meters. Branches assist to measure the age of a tree. The oldest tree in the Tenerife is El Drago Milenario. This Dragon Tree age is about 1000 to 5000 years that makes it the oldest alive Dragon Tree in the world. Dragon trees have a reasonable amount of variety in the Canary Islands.
