Praia da Comporta or Comporta Beach is one of the beaches that is found on Troia island in the northern part of Alentejo region. It's that type of beach that acquired the fame of being the secret celebrity haunt, Portuguese Ibiza or St Tropez but still manages to remain the opposite of touristy.
Squeezed between the greenery of Heradade da Comporta rice fields and Atlantic ocean, the Comporta Beach promises versatility in views and never fails. Not only that, but it's also got the name from one of the seven villages of which the estate of Herdade da Comporta comprises. Also, being a part of the preserved Sado Estuary means that the unique vegetation and natural life of the area are taken care of, including the dunes and pine forest. The white powdery sands, contrasting with crystalline blue waters are a perfect formula for a successful getaway from the loud urban fast-paced life of Lisbon and crowded beaches.
The vastness of Comporta Beach allows you to feel almost deserted, only stumbling upon random tourists. Here, you can not only swim but also do some water sport activities like kite surfing. Here, there are even competitions held here. Other stars of Comporta beach are restaurants. The delicacies served here are repeatedly praised by food-lovers. One of the classic places to visit are the Comporta Café and the Ilha do Arroz. Seafood is generally the catch of these places, so don't miss out on the chance to try something like octopus salad or another local dish.
So, if you like to spend some time at the beach but aren't particularly enthusiastic about crowded ocean coasts, then go to Comporta Beach and enjoy sunny solitude as long as you wish!
