Castillo de San Andres is the fort which is also called Tower of San Andres and it basically built in the village of San Andres. It has a good record of protecting Tenerife from the attacks from different pirates. Castle has a very interesting history. King Philip II sent Leonard Torriani to protect the Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A most important place to guard was Salazar valley which is now called San Andres.
Many historians concede that the Castillo de San Andres was actually constructed in 1706, however, some writing record its construction date 1697. It was considered essential to defend the beach of San Andres as well as the ships against pirates. It is important to mention that during the Battle of Santa de Cruz Tenerife in 1797, this place had played a very significant role. Shots from this castle just wrecked the ship of Admiral Nelson.
The Castle was named among Spanish Historical Heritage in 1967. Furthermore, it was declared a place of cultural interest in the Canary Islands in 1999. It is an epitome of Anaga and San Andres. This magnificent place is built near to the exit of the stream of the ravine Cercado de Andres. In the past, half of this castle was just destroyed by the rain streams but the other half is still there to see.
