Highlights
Description
We begin our journey toward the city's political center, the historic May Square (Plaza de Mayo), where Buenos Aires was founded. There, we will see the Pink House (Government House), home of the fabled balcony from which Evita used to address the populace, as well as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Cabildo, the colonial city-hall, and the magnificent mausoleum of Argentina's independence hero, General San Martín. We will then continue on through May Avenue, which connects the Pink House with the imponent Congress building. On this boulevard we will find Art Nouveau buildings, old hotels, theaters, and historic cafes. Finally, we will visit the traditional Café Tortoni, a cafe-museum which was opened in 1858 and was visited by intellectuals, artists. It also offers tango shows and has its own tango academy.
We proceed in the direction of San Telmo, a community of artists, bohemians, antique stores, and cobblestone streets. We'll travel by Dorrego Square, where thousands of visitors and Porteños come every Sunday to attend the antique fair.
While touring the city, we will cover different areas and special buildings such as the main boulevard 9 of July (the widest in the world), the Colón Theatre (considered one of the best 5 opera houses in the planet, with an astonishing acoustics), the famous Obelisk, the building with the giant image of Evita, the big metal-made flower which opens and closes as a real flower, and many other attractions.
We continue our journey through the vibrant La Boca area, where many artists set up their studios and workshops. We will stroll down Caminito's fabled street to experience the local vibe, which includes a passion for soccer and tango. We will also pass along Boca Juniors Stadium, getting both a panoramic and a close view. Then, we will visit the newest district, with the more expensive square meter in the whole city. Puerto Madero is where we resume our trip. In the 1990s, this area underwent a complete renovation. Three design hotels, upscale dining options, and upscale apartment complexes can be found in its new residential neighborhood, which is located along the river.
After departing Puerto Madero, we go north and come across Retiro district, where aristocrat San Martín Square is encircled by graceful buildings of French architecture.
Our journey concludes in Recoleta, where we discover the city's second-oldest colonial-style church, Our Lady of Pilar, and numerous mansions from the time Argentina was one of the richest countries in the world.
