Overview
Abuna Yosef is a prominent mountain in the Lasta massif of the Ethiopian Highlands. At 4,260 metres it is the 6th tallest mountain in Ethiopia and the 19th highest of Africa. It is located in the Semien Wollo Zone of the Amhara Region.

Abune Yoseph mountain is the third highest peak in Ethiopia. The Abune Yoseph massif offers visitors stunning views and wildlife viewing opportunities.
During the treks in Abune Yoseph / Zigit and Abohay Gariya Community Conservation Area (AZACCA), visitors can see an impressive array of flora and fauna including giant lobelia, troops of gelada baboons, and the rare Ethiopia wolf.
Located north of Lalibela, the afro-montane environment offers a perfect complement to the cultural and historical experience of the Lalibela rock-hewn churches.
During treks, visitors enjoy friendly hospitality in community-managed guest houses built out of local materials.
Treks in Abune Yoseph bring visitors to over 4,000m and are not for the faint of heart. However, those that make the climb find the views and experience well worth it!

After early breakfast with picnic lunch, drive to Abune Yousef community Conservation area.
Mount Abune Yousef is located 60km east of Lalibela.
Pass through the spectacular Last Mountains enjoy the remarkable landscape till you reach Abune Yousef. After you reach the park trek 30munite to the peak of Abune Yousef called rim Gedel is the 3rd highest peak in Ethiopia an altitude of 4300m.
From rim Gedel you have a 360-degree view take a short break and continue your walk around the park. Today you will spend most of your day at Abune Yousef.
The spectacular view of mount Abune Yousef, different fauna and flora of the area, the visiting swarm of Ghelada baboons, red fox, plenty of Birds… and more will make your day unforgettable.
After a picnic lunch in Abune Yousef, you will drive to the village called Wedebye, walk to the village to learn how the community around Lalibela. You can walk to one of the villages close to the Wedebye and learn about the life of the local people including farming practices, cattle rearing, and local traditions.
Spend the remind of the afternoon enjoying Ethiopian coffee with the community.
